The purpose of our classes is to create a positive, life-long relationship with you and your dog. Our training team meets you where you’re at and helps guide you and your dog in attaining important life skills and manners. With a variety of trainer’s teaching the class we’re able to provide you with multiple tools to add to your toolbox.  Is one method not working for you? We pride ourselves in being able to think on the fly and offer other training methodologies to meet your specific training needs.

In our classes, parents have the opportunity to learn the following: what their dog is telling them through body language; the principles of classical and operant conditioning; what the preferred currency or reward is for their dog; different tips and tricks to try when training; plus so much more.  Dogs have the opportunity to learn manners and life skills in a positive, fun, and safe environment with their parents in a class size of 6 teams or less.

Unless otherwise directed, the first class of any series (Puppy, Levels, Canine Good Citizen) will begin with no dogs, just people.  The training team feels it is an unfair expectation for a puppy or dog to be calm through all the important administrative information we need to relay to the parents. Some of the information we will be going over on the first day includes: what to bring to class, how to come into class, how puppies/dogs learn, the basic outline and expectations of the class, your needs and concerns, and more.

What to bring to all our classes:

– Flat collar, slip leash, or body harness

– Standard 6 ft nylon or leather leash (long lines in levels 2 and 3)

– Treat pouch (highly recommended) or plastic baggie

– LOTS of small, soft, and stinky treats (treats should be small because we use a lot of them, and they should be soft so your dog doesn’t have to spend a lot of time chewing)

– Water bowl, and a full water bottle

– Poop bags should be brought to every class

What not to bring:

– Flexi/retractable leashes

– Shaker cans, spray bottles, or other means of stopping your dog from doing something

-Toys that have squeakers in them-they are soooo exciting!

AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy

STAR stands for Socialization, Training, Activity, and Responsibility- You can find more information on the American Kennel Club page: https://www.akc.org/products-services/training-programs/canine-good-citizen/akc-star-puppy/

In this class we work together to help your puppy explore the world around them with different socialization activities, including play with other puppies, meeting new safe people, being handled by different people, different surfaces and objects in their environment.

Puppies have the opportunity to learn the important life skills of sit, down, trade, come, loose leash walking, and four on the floor/off. Puppies begin to work on tolerating/desensitization of touch to feet, ears, hind legs, and muzzle in a slow relaxed way to help prepare them for vet and grooming visits.

We also begin the life long journey of impulse control, leash manners and friendly greeting of people on leash.

Eligibility: All puppies under 12 months old

Level: Puppy/Beginner

Class Length: Meet once per week for 7 weeks, 60-minute classes

Class Rate: $180.00

Class Size: Limited to 6 Puppies

Levels Classes- membership $130/month

This is a ongoing monthly membership-style class that is billed automatically (through the PocketSuite app) on the 28th of each preceding month until you cancel.  For example, if you want to start in January, you will be billed on December 28th. If you wish to skip or cancel the next month, you must do so by the 27th of the preceding month.

Everyone begins in a Level 1 class. As you master the skills in Level 1, you’re invited to Level 2. When you become proficient in the skills in Level 2, you’re asked to join Level 3.  Upon mastery of Level 3 you are invited to come to any of the classes, Levels 1-3.  Why? Because a Level 3 team should be ready to encounter more distractions, such as a less mature dog in Level 1.  Please contact us to sign up for Levels Classes, we will send you the link to PocketSuite.

The benefits of a levels system are as follows:

  • The chance to go to as many classes in a week as you want
  • Flexibility to go to a class that fits your schedule
  • You get to work with different trainers that have different training tips
  • The possibility for huge savings per class
  • Dogs/teams work at their own pace, no rushing onto the next class or level
  • Upon completion of level three you get opportunities that don’t exist with typical class structures; the learning never ends with new scenarios/opportunities

Level 1 Life Skills

  • Name recognition
  • Release command
  • Marker word or clicker
  • Grooming skills
  • Sit
  • Down
  • Stay
  • Come
  • Leave it/Trade
  • Place
  • Off/Four on the floor

Level 1 is taught inside year round. We use different equipment and surfaces to continue introducing your dog to new things. This class we focus on developing the life skills that your pup has already learned or teaching them the skills they may not know. We work on building the foundation of these skills that will serve your team the rest of your lives. We continue to work on strengthening the relationship of the team to help reach your team goals. Past/current clients have these goals: I would like my dog to walk nicely on a leash, I would like my dog to listen to me, I want the challenge of new distractions both dogs and people, I would like my dog to come to me when off leash, and many more. What goals can we help your team achieve?

 Level 2 Life Skills:

  • Name recognition or look with increased distraction
  • Sit with a verbal and/or hand command
  • Down with a verbal and /or hand command
  • Stay with more distance and distractions
  • Come/leave it- past distractions
  • Heel and loose leash walking
  • Place command adding distance
  • “Off” a friendly stranger coming to greet them
  • Appropriate behavior on leash as we close the distance between our teams
  • Introduction of games
  • Exposure to distractions (bike, skateboard, jogger, wheelchairs, etc)

Level 2 is taught inside one day a week and up two days a week outside (weather permitting). We start inside and continue to work on the life skills listed above. This allows the teams to expand their skills in a semi distracting environment. Next we move outside since this is the environment in which you will likely need these skills the most. We practice outside of the daycare in what we consider a mid-distraction area. It’s not as distracting as a busy road/trail, park, business, etc. (as in level 3), however, this helps you and your dog work on the skills in an environment where your team has a better chance of being successful. We begin to utilize long lines in this class for lengthening the distance of stay and come inside and outside.

Level 3 Life Skills

  • Advanced sit and down
  • Stay with handler out of sight-practiced inside several times
  • Come/leave it- past other dogs, bigger distractions
  • Heeling- greeting a friendly dog, heeling on the other side
  • Center
  • More and more games/challenges
  • Minor exposure to Rally and/or agility equipment
  • Out and about field trip/training days
  • Continued exposure to bikes, skateboards, joggers, wheelchairs, etc

Level 3 is taught mostly outside weather permitting. We take the skills your team has built in Levels 1 and 2 out into the world. Helping to expand your team’s relationship, we visit parks, businesses, busy streets, and trails to continue to shape, and grow the skills you have built . We utilize both short and long lines in this class. In the winter months we aim to visit local dog friendly businesses at least once a week. The other two days are practicing new life skills such as, but not limited to: emergency downs and the way you prefer your dog to act when you fall, etc.

*After mastering these skills in Level 3 then teams can go to whatever class they want to for new distractions, or continue in group 3 to expand their experiences and relationship.
